Our founder
Alex McKinlay is an Australian Certified Practising Speech Pathologist with a long career in working with children, teenagers and adult who have literacy difficulties, comprehension problems, speech and language difficulties. Alex has over 16yrs expertise in working with students with dyslexia, ADHD and language disorders.
Prior to Truly Heard, Alex founded Speak & Write Speech Pathology, renowned for its literacy and language intervention with school aged students. Alex then founded Truly Heard in order to broaden services beyond primary school students to include teenagers and young adults transitioning to further education and the workforce.
Alex also works as a clinical educator with Charles Sturt University. Prior to this, Alex worked as a clinical educator for Sydney University as well as a research assistant in Aboriginal and Indigenous language. She also project managed the delivery of speech therapy services as part of a Federal Government health initiative in collaboration with Catholic Education. During this time, Alex trained learning support officers in identifying students at risk of speech and learning disorders.
Alex began her career as a trainer in the travel and hospitality industry before qualifying as a speech pathologist specialising communication disorders and literacy difficulties.
