Confidence is everything when it comes to the HSC
“Confidence is everything at this stressful time of life for teenagers and their parents. My focus is always on supporting HSC students in a way that directly helps with their school work and at the same time, empowers them with self-belief and confidence. I make sure students know this is a ‘judgement free zone’ and a safe place to be honest about their work.
I help a wide range of students; some just need help organising their writing so they achieve better marks, and some need help with various skills such as reading, comprehension as well as writing. Having a sense of humour is so important, for all involved, I try to help my students control HSC anxiety and see the big picture. Year 12 and the HSC is such an exciting period in a teenager’s life, but at the time it can feel totally overwhelming”.
Alex McKinlay is a qualified learning specialist with over 16yrs experience in helping HSC students:
The 1:1 sessions are conducted weekly either online via Zoom, or face to face at the student’s school or at our Newtown clinic. The support sessions feel like ‘tutoring’ to teenagers, because we help with the assignments and essays that they need to submit for school. However, as a learning specialists, we are not just concerned whether HSC students understand the class content, we also also focused on helping them build the skills they need to write well-explained essays, understand assignments and plan their work – all of the skills they need for the HSC and the rest of their life.
PLEASE NOTE: Medicare & health insurance rebates may apply under ‘speech therapy’
